SUPPORT AFRICAN CHILDREN CAMPAIGN

EliYahMUSIC is extending support to Kidogo Kids (registered charity: NIC108006) in spreading the word about the amazing things they do to help the African children. Here's some info about what they do.

The Baby Home is based in Nairobi, Kenya. It provides a safe haven for babies that have either been abandoned or given up for adoption. Often the babies have been found in dreadful situations, such as a pit latrine, plastic bag, bridge or vegetable stall. They are then brought to the home by the police or hospital (all very official and legitimate!) where they are cared for very well until they can either be reunited with family members or adopted by loving Kenyan families.
There are currently 22 babies in the home, from six months old up to two and a half years. Due to Covid, no adoptions have been able to happen since early this year unfortunately, but we are very much hoping that this will soon begin to change.
We have been working with the baby home for a number of years now. We provide financial support for them as well as buying food, cleaning products, baby items and other essentials. A few weeks ago we refurbished their sandpit and bought a paddling pool for the toddlers, so that they have more variety in their activities.

£10 a month can provide some of these essentials for a baby in the home. If you choose to sponsor a baby, you will receive regular updates and photos of the child you are supporting. As the children at the baby home don’t stay in the programme for their whole childhood, the sponsorship is called “adopt-a-cot” – if the child in your cot is adopted or returns to their relatives, then you start sponsoring another child who moves into that cot.
GIRLS PROTECTION PROGRAMME
Kidogo Kids set up a programme in order to provide extra support and safety to some of the most vulnerable girls in the slum. This programme aims to protect vulnerable young girls living in a Nairobi slum. The area they live in has very high unemployment and serious issues of drug abuse and alcoholism. The girls are aged 3 years to 11 years old and all live in extreme poverty. Many of the girls have been neglected and some have also been abused.

We started the programme in order to give these girls somewhere safe to spend their days as well as it being a way for us to monitor their progress and ensure that they are being suitably looked after. The area where they live is not a very safe one, especially now as unemployment is very high and there are many social issues such as drug and alcohol abuse. As the parents / guardians of the girls are often not at home during the day, the girls are left to play in the streets with their friends, with little supervision. Sadly this is often when abuse occurs. Covid has exacerbated the problem, as schools have been closed since March and are going to continue to be until January 2021 at least, so the children have had nowhere to spend their days other than playing in the streets.
